The majority of weapons interred in graves were never used and their designs are often too delicate to be functional weapons. This axe is a rare example of not only having a robust functional design with the ability to be mounted on a thick shaft to sustain impact, but the cutting blade and hammer end show extensive battle damage and profound evidence of use.
