GROUND STONE AXE WITH DECORATION

Type:  Ground Stone Axe with Decoration

Period:  Capsian Tradition African Neolithic  8500 - 3000 years ago

Provenance:  Northwest Africa

Measurements:  26 cm x 5.5 cm

 


Comments:  Extreme wind erosion on back side.  Front side shows three engraved lines traversing the body near the cutting bit.  This is the only artistically accented celt we have seen.  Cutting bit is sharp and intact with no damage.
